OnePlus 3T vs OnePlus 5: What to expect from the next OnePlus flagship?

OnePlus 5

OnePlus’ next flagship offering will be called the OnePlus 5 instead of OnePlus 4, according to a few reputable sources. The Chinese manufacturer is expected to ditch the OnePlus 4 branding and jump straight from the OnePlus 3T to OnePlus 5.

Express.co.uk reports that the company might have arrived at this decision considering that numeral 4 is considered as an unlucky number in China. However, whatever the company decides to call its next flagship, several key sources suggest it’ll be worth the wait.

OnePlus 5: Design

First off, the OnePlus 5 is said to feature an industrial design just like the Galaxy S7 Edge. As the Chinese manufacturer’s upcoming flagship offering is rumored to sport a dual-curved, edge-to-edge display. Now, this essentially allows a bigger screen at the same time keeps the overall form-factor relatively small. Also, the OnePlus 5 is said to flaunt a ceramic body.

OnePlus 5: Specs and Features rumors

Samsung already has first dibs on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor for its Galaxy S8 flagship. Hence, the Chinese company will have to wait until sufficient stocks of the chipset become available. In that case, the company could even opt for an older processor.

The current OnePlus 3T flagship packs the Snapdragon 821 processor, therefore, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if the company decides to use the older chipset.

Also, we expect the OnePlus 5 release date delayed for later this year as the company might not have enough quantities of the new Snapdragon 835 SoC. Now, that would be in case they decide to stick with Qualcomm’s newest offering in the upcoming OnePlus 5.

Besides, a few sources also suggest the OnePlus 5 to pack 6GB of RAM. However, others have pointed this could be upgraded to a whopping 8GB RAM in the upcoming flagship. The smartphone is also expected to get a high-end variant packing 256GB of built-in storage.

Elsewhere, powering the smartphone is rumored to be a chunky 4000mAh battery with Fast Charging support via USB Type C.

As far as cameras are concerned, the OnePlus 5 is rumored to sport a 23MP primary camera, along with a 16MP front-facing shooter.

OnePlus 5: Release Date and Price rumors

In the past, OnePlus announced the OnePlus 3 on June 14, 2016, while the OnePlus 2 was officially revealed on July 28, 2015. The original OnePlus was released on April 23, 2014.

On the other hand, the OnePlus 3 was revealed on November 1, 2016, while the upgraded OnePlus 3T was revealed almost exactly five months after on April 15, 2017.

Hence, we expect the Chinese company to wait until May or June 2017 to make its upcoming OnePlus 5 flagship a worthy upgrade. It would give them ample time add new and distinguishing hardware features in its upcoming flagship phone.

In the meantime, it might be just analyzing and studying the market to see how it can outshine its competitors. That said, nothing is for certain and it’s just a guessing game at the moment.

As far as pricing goes, the OnePlus 3T’s entry price at launch was kept at $439, which is almost half the price compared to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the iPhone 7.

Besides, the upcoming anniversary edition iPhone 8 is purportedly expected to cross the $1000 mark. Hence, the Chinese manufacturer would probably want to keep the price of the OnePlus 5 as close to its predecessor as possible to keep its fanbase alive.

However, it’s still early days but more details are likely to surface in the near future.  We at PC-tablet will bring you all the latest leaks, news, and rumors about the OnePlus 5 as they happen. Till then, keep checking back for more.
