Android Nougat 7.0 Release Date, Features, Rumors: Know the next-gen Android

Android 7.0 Nougat

It’s official now. Android 7.0 would be called Android Nougat. Google has released fifth and final preview built of the upcoming Android N that are speculated to release in August. We round up rumors on the next generation of Android, whose first glimpse may be available by the end of the second quarter, and release by the end of the third quarter this year.

While most of the people are still thinking about one question, ‘When will I get Android 6.0 Marshmallow?’; Google is working on the next version of its Android series! The new version is known as Android Nougat 7.0 right now.

Just like the earlier years, Google has named Android N by the name of a sweet. It announced the initial letter of the new generation of its Android a few months back. Over the years, Google has rolled out alphabetically its Android versions for its users. Starting from A, Google has come up to M last year, where M stands for ‘Marshmallow.’

The earlier versions of Android in alphabetical order are as follows: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, and Marshmallow. With just the exception of KitKat version, the naming schemes of all the previous versions of Android have been food stuff rather than brands. (But having said that, KitKat is also a chocolate brand; again a food stuff!)

Android Nougat 7.0 Features

While it’s too early to predict and guess what exact the next generation Android will offer; but there have been a couple of rumors, suggesting some exciting things about this new version. First and foremost, Android Nougat is said to be a mixture of the Chrome OS and the Android OS. Yeah, Google has been working pretty hard on this.

Will Android OS Kill Chrome OS?

Of course not! Actually, the real answer lies in, ‘not exactly now!’ But, it has been rumored in the past that the next generation of Android OS is going to eliminate the Chrome OS. And also, these two operating systems will come together, with Chrome being folded into the Android OS.

With Android Nougat 7.0, Google has confirmed that both these operating systems will continue to work. But, probably with Android OS 8.0, these operating systems will become one. It’s because Google wants to increase its market share with proper laptops instead of tablet hybrids, running Android.

Split Screen Feature

Going on similar lines to that of the Samsung Galaxy S6; Android N will come with a new split-screen feature too. Google is looking to make multi-tasking much easier and helpful in the new generation Android N.

In December 2015, Google’s director for consumer hardware, Andrew Bowers confirmed the same saying, “We are working on lots of things right now for N that, of course, we wish we had, you know. But we would spoil the surprise of N if we shared all of them. Split screen is in the works!”

Android Nougat 7.0 Release Date

Android 6.0 Marshmallow was launched in the month of September last year. So, it’s pretty much early to even talk about the release date of Android N. However, seeing the past trends of Google, it will definitely release the same before the fourth quarter. To be more precise, Android N 7.0 will release it by the end of the third quarter. So, there’s a lot of time, and surely more rumors and information will roll out about this new version of the Android.

Apart from this, rumors are also there regarding Google’s working on a new messaging service. This new service of Google will fight Facebook’s WhatsApp and Apple’s iMessage. And, it will replace the ‘Google Hangouts’ and going to bring more than SMS and voice via normal messages.
