Android 7.1.1 arrives on the Sony Xperia X and Xperia X Compact

Sony Xperia X and the Xperia X Compact handsets are now getting updated to Android v7.1.1. In addition, the latest Nougat update on the above-mentioned handsets arrives with the June Android security patch. Sony has officially confirmed about the same via a Xperia blog post which says:

“Sony Mobile is rolling a new Nougat update for Xperia X and Xperia X Compact owners that moves them from Android 7.0 to 7.1.1.”

With Android Nougat v7.1.1, Xperia X and Xperia X Compact users can look forward to new features such as night light, new emojis, improved notifications, along with enhanced battery performance. In addition, the update also brings features such as support for circular app icons along with image insertion via the keyboard.

Besides, some users also suggest that the update brings a New Smart Stamina Mode along with Xperia Action features on both devices. On the flip side, some reports suggest that key Nougat 7.1.1 features are still missing. For instance, users have complained about the missing clock widget for the lock screen along with missing app shortcuts.

Key specifications on Xperia X include a 5-inch Full HD display. Under the hood, the device gets powered by the Snapdragon 650 processor bundled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage. In the camera department, specifications the device gets a 23MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture. For selfies, the smartphone features a 13MP front-facing shooter. The Xperia X Compact gets more or less the same set of specifications. Being a compact device, it gets a smaller 4.6-inch HD display. Besides, other difference being its 5MP front-facing shooter for selfies.

In case you missed, Sony has also released the new Xperia XZ Premium which comes with 4K HDR and Motion Eye camera capabilities. The high-end smartphone will be available to pre-order vi BestBuy and Amazon for $799 starting June 12. The highlight of the device is its 19MP Motion Eye camera system clubbed with features such as PDAF and laser-auto-focus. Other key specs include a 5.5-inch 4K screen and runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. Under the hood, the smartphone gets powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 processor bundled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage, which can be further expanded via microSD slot. Juicing the Xperia XZ Premium is a 3230mAh battery with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.
