Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Specs – Everything you need to know about the next Note

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 announced this year is a major game changer for the Note series. While we haven’t stepped into 2015, rumors about the next generation Note have started floating over the internet. We have compiled all of them to make you aware of the Galaxy Note 5.

After Galaxy Note 4 upgrading from Full HD display to QHD display, it is expected that Note 5 will be featuring a UHD (4K) display. This report comes from unnamed ‘insiders’ who further adds; Samsung will start the mass production of its first 4K based phone in September 2015.

The 4K display will be stretched across 5.9-inch display that results into 746 ppi pixel density. Apart from the internal sources, the company has itself revealed that they are considering a phone with 4K display in 2015.

Note 4 was a the first widely available phone to adopt the Snapdragon 805 SoC. Note 5 scheduled for next year could be powered by 64 bit processor may be – a Snapdragon 810 SoC or a newer, as yet unconfirmed SoC. Note 5 is rumored to ship with 4GB RAM and up to 128GB internal memory along with microSD card.

There are no reports about the camera. The camera on Note 4 is impeccable and is one of the very good cameras on smartphones after iPhone 6 Plus. We would like to see what the Korean manufacturer will be doing regarding the camera.

The Korean giant is very much predictable; we can expect the Galaxy S6 at the Mobile World Congress 2015 in March whereas the Galaxy Note 5 will traditionally debut at the IFA conference in September.

Slimmest Samsung Galaxy A7 Smartphone releasing soon in Korea and China

Despite the fall in smartphone sales, SAMSUNG C&T CORP (Korea: A000830) is still releasing devices on a regular basis. Rumors have it that the company is aiming to launch a handset that goes by the name, Galaxy A7, and it could turn out to be the slimmest Samsung smartphone yet.

According to a report from the Chinese regulatory approval, the Galaxy A7 may come with an ultrathin chassis that measures 6.3mm. This would make the A7 thinner than the Galaxy Alpha, Samsung’s thinnest smartphone to-date.

The handset won’t be as powerful when compared to the Galaxy S5, but it comes very close. According to rumors, the device will come equipped with Android 4.4.4 KitKat and a beautiful 1080p display that measures 5.5-inches. On the back, the Galaxy A7 is expected to have a sharp 12-megapixel camera and 5-megapixel front-facing camera for taking selfies.

If we dig deeper into the internals, the rumors claim the handset should launch with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 1.5GHz super-fast octa-core processor.

From what we can tell from the specifications and the design, Samsung is aiming for the high-end section of the mid-range spectrum. Furthermore, since this device is a member of the A series of the Samsung Galaxy line of smartphones, it should come with an all metal body.

The Galaxy A line was brought into place to give customers choice. In the past, may Galaxy users have complained about the company’s lack of effort in creating a smartphone with a metal chassis. At the moment, it is not clear if the A7 will be exclusive to China, though we doubt that would happen since Samsung is planning to return to winning ways.

The Galaxy company is in a bit of a tight spot due to the rise of enterprises such as Xiaomi in China, and several Indian OEMs. These companies are capable of releasing smartphones at a much cheaper price when compared to Samsung, and consumers are gravitating towards them.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Apple iPhone 6 Plus – Specs, Features, & Price Comparison

Apple iPhone that was once beating around the other flagships residing in its 4-inch shell has made its way out of it. Apple this year launched the iPhone phablet looking at the over increasing demand for phablets and other manufacturers becoming the market kings.

Apple iPhone 6 Plus – the phablet – features a 5.5-inch display that makes it as the first of a kind product by the company. Samsung Galaxy Note series, well known for its phablets adds a new product to its lineup – the Galaxy Note 4.

Both the flagships are huge for the pocket, if you are considering one for the Christmas then, you should go through this comparison to find the best one for you.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Screen

  • Apple iPhone 6 Plus: 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 LED-backlit IPS LCD
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 4: 5.7-inch 2560 x 1440 Super AMOLED

iPhone 6 Plus features a 5.5-inch display, although it’s huge, it’s not as big as Galaxy Note 4’s display. The Samsung rival features a 5.7-inch display. iPhone 6 Plus packs a full HD display having resolution 1920 x 1080 pixels that results into 401 ppi pixel density. On the other hand, Galaxy Note 4 packs a Quad HD display having resolution 2560 x 1440 pixels that result into 515 ppi pixel density.

Both phones haven’t left their traditional display panels. iPhone 6 Plus still uses the same LED-backlit LCD display with IPS technology and Galaxy Note 4 boasts the same Super AMOLED screen.

Samsung has a lot to offer than Apple; the QuadHD display offers better pixel density making the display look richer than the Apple counterpart does. Super AMOLED display defeats all LCDs for its black levels and contrast, making it looks better in the dark environment. The colors are vibrant, which will serve the best for playing games and watching videos.

Although the LED-backlit LCD on iPhone doesn’t match the Super AMOLED, it’s still great considering the contrast level, black levels and outdoor visibility.

Both displays are equally good on its respective device; however, Samsung AMOLED wins the crown here.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Design

  • Apple iPhone 6 Plus: 7.1 mm, curved aluminum build
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 4: 8.5 mm, metal edge, plastic back

Samsung for the first time is using metal in its flagship design. The Note 4 features an anodized aluminium on its edge instead of the traditional cheap plastic. The cheap stitches from Note 3 has are also eliminated. The phone still sports plastic back.

Despite 5.7-inch display, it is comfortable to hold in one hand. However, although great, it doesn’t match Apple’s industrial design’s sleekness and slimness.

Apple has revamped iPhone’s design for the first time since the launch of iPhone 4. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus for the first-time feature narrow bezels. iPhone 6 Plus is incredibly great to hold in one hand. It’s taller than Note 4 but features a slim profile (7.1 mm) than Note 4 (8.5 mm).

iPhone 6 Plus for its aesthetics, feel and comfort to hold is the clear winner.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Performance

  • Apple iPhone 6 Plus: 64-bit Apple A8 dual-core 1.4GHz, M8 co-processor, 1GB RAM
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 4: 32-bit 2.7 GHZ Quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, Adreno 420 GPU, 3GB RAM

On paper, the Note 4 offers more numbers. The cores, the clock speed and the RAM are greater than iPhone 6 Plus. However, although less in number, iPhone 6 Plus is equally powerful as its rival.

Here are the detailed benchmark scores of the two.

Model   GeekBench 3   GFXBench T-Rex   GFXBench Manhattan   SunSpider

  • iPhone 6 Plus   3272   27 fps   11 fps   1367 ms
  • Galaxy Note 4   2917   41 fps   19 fps   369 ms

Looking for the winner, we would say it’s a tie here.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Camera

  • Apple iPhone 6 Plus: 8-megapixel rear, 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera, 1080p HD video recording
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 4: 16-megapixel rear, 3.7-megapixel front-facing camera, 4K video recording

Cameras on both phones are powerful. Apple still features an 8-megapixel camera sensor, which shouldn’t be underestimated with the 16-megapixel sensor of Note 4. Megapixel count doesn’t add to the camera’s quality.

Both phones are equally capable of capturing good photos. This was not expected on Note 4, but for the first time in the lineup, the phone offers exceptional camera. The large megapixel count on Note 4 will help getting detailed photos.

Both phones pack optical image stabilization. Apple has also included phase detection in iPhone 6 Plus.

Considering the video, iPhone 6 Plus still captures videos in 1080p, however, on the other hand, Note 4 can capture videos in 4K resolution.

Both cameras are exceptionally well, but we were impressed with iPhone 6 Plus’s camera. Apple’s flagship takes the crown here.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Storage

  • Apple iPhone 6 Plus: 16GB, 64GB, 128GB
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 4: 32GB

Apple offers iPhone 6 Plus in three capacity options – 16GB, 64GB and 128GB. Apple for the first time has dropped the 32GB model and introduced a new 128GB option.

Galaxy Note 4 is available in only 32GB model. However, it is included with microSD card slot, which offers storage expansion up to 128GB.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Software

  • Apple iPhone 6 Plus: iOS 8.1.1
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 4: Android 4.4.4 KitKat with TouchWiz UI

We are not getting into the never-ending Android vs. iOS battle. Both operating systems are equally great and have something superior and exceptional to offer than the other.

However, considering the software performance on the device, Samsung is poor in this department. The TouchWiz UI is full of bloatware, lurid colors and useless features that consume a considerable amount of memory.

iOS compared to TouchWiz tweaked Android 4.4 performs exceptionally well with no bloatware, smooth and incredible performance.

The winner here is the iPhone 6 Plus with neat and clean iOS 8.1.1.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Battery

  • Apple iPhone 6 Plus: 2915 mAh
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 4: 3220 mAh

Samsung offers a powerful battery, but with no surprise it consumes equally fast because of the QuadHD display and the performance components.

None of the two is going to offer full day battery life with heavy use. With moderate use, it can be extended up to two days, which is impressive. Battery performance greatly depend on your installed apps, settings such as brightness, connectivity mode and background update frequency.

We used both phones with standard test settings and observed that iPhone 6 Plus offers slightly better battery than Note 4. The clear winner here is the iPhone 6 Plus.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Price

Both phones are available on a 2-year contract for $299. You get the 16GB iPhone for the price, but a 32GB Note 4. Storage expansion hardly costs anything with Note 4; however, the 64GB and 128GB will cost you $399 and $499 respectively.

Off contract, Note 4 retails for $599 while 16GB, 64GB and 128GB iPhone 6 Plus models for $749, $848 and $949. A Note 4 with 128GB microSD will hardly cost you $700.

When the comparison between Apple and other is based on price, Apple is clearly a loser.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Apple iPhone 6 Plus: Verdict

Both phones are equally powerful and have something exception to offer. It entirely depends on you and your pocket, which model suits the best for you. If you want simplicity, ease of use, we will recommend iPhone 6 Plus. If you are looking for a large screen with stylus support, 4K video recording and don’t want to spend much then Galaxy Note 4 is your new smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Specs Leaks: 5.5-inch Display and 20 Megapixel Camera

Rumors of the Samsung Galaxy S6 have been circling the web for quite some time. However, these rumors lacked anything believable, but that all changed when a new report from a Chinese publication allegedly leaked the specifications of the handset.

The previously released Samsung Galaxy S5, failed to impress buyers, and the company did not sell the amount it wanted. This and other factors caused a slowdown in Samsung’s smartphone sales, forcing the company to rethink its approach to the mobile market.

According to the Chinese publication, the model number for the Galaxy S6 is SM-G925F, and it could come with a 5.5-inch display. The display is quite impressive as the resolution is 2560 x 1440 (QHD) while the processor is 64-bit octa-core Exynos. We’re not certain of the speed of the processor, but it should be nothing less than quad core.

In addition, the device is expected to launch with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage. When it comes down to the GPU, SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO LTD (GREY: SSNLF) has chosen to work with an ARM Mali-T760 GPU. Gaming should be a lot better on the Galaxy S6 when compared to the Galaxy S5.

The device is also expected to come with Android 5.0 Lollipop and an impressive 20-megapixel camera, along with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

For now, Samsung is far from ready to announce the Galaxy S6. Things could be completely different come 2015, but we wouldn’t mind if this is the actual specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S6.

We have to say that we are very much impressed with this leaked information. Samsung wants a hit smartphone in order to ensure that the company won’t lose out to the upcoming competition from Xiaomi and other Chinese firms.

The Android landscape is getting increasing crowded, and the South Korean giant might never have it easy anymore.

The release date for Galaxy S5 is not yet officially announced, but according to rumours its happening somewhere in December. The Galaxy S4 is getting the update in early 2015, the specific date is unknown.
