Google unveiles a tool to obtain your Lok Sabha Candidate Information

Do you want to know who is contesting Lok Sabha elections 2014 from your constituency? Light up ‘Know your Candidate’ tool, launched by Google! The tool is a part of elections portal offering from Google that aims to create awareness among 800 million voters to help them make an informed decision. After all, every single vote counts!

The page besides offering citizens access to relevant information about political candidates contesting from their constituency covers background of their incumbent Member of Parliament also. All the relevant information pertaining to the political background, educational status, social media presence and financial details of the candidate is sourced from Indian organizations such as the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), PRS Legislative Research and Liberty Institute India.

In addition to the above, one can find and watch video bios of the candidates provided by Ping networks. Voters wanting to check out information of candidates from different political groups can do so by simply entering the pin codes of their area or by zooming on the locality of the map since complete information is mapped onto Google Maps interface.

Rajan Anandan, VP and Managing Director of Google India, said

“With the launch of this tool, we have added all the important information of the contesting candidates with the help of groups such as ADR and PRS Legislative Research who have been doing a stellar job of collating all the important information about the candidates. We hope that making this information easily accessible will help Indian voters learn more about candidates running for public office and help them to make an informed decision.”

Google promises to update the tool regularly to dispose complete information about all candidates as they get finalized and furnish it at least a week before the voting day in each constituency. Prof. Trilochan Sastry, a founding member of ADR was pleased to collaborate with Google to launch this tool.
