Microsoft has officially announced the next generation Windows – Windows 8, yesterday at special event in New York. With the release of Windows 8, a new range of devices has flooded the market but one of the most anticipated and eye catching Windows 8 device is developed by the Microsoft itself. Yes, we are talking about Microsoft Surface RT tablet which runs RT version of Windows 8.
Along with the Windows 8, Microsoft has released the Surface RT tablet officially in the special event as well.
Microsoft Surface is now officially available at Microsoft Store (both online and retail stores) to buy in USA, UK, Australia and few Asian countries. You can also order one if you are residing outside the US but have to pay extra for the shipping charges. Right now, RT version of Surface is only up for sale and Pro version of Surface will go for sale early next year.
Surface RT is an example of pioneering in design engineering and product development. It took Microsoft several years to develop a product of such perfection, it feels so good when you hold it in your hands that you’ll want to hold it again and again in your hands. From selecting materials to designing the product, Microsoft haven’t compromised in any single area while developing the Surface tablet.
Yesterday at the Surface launch event, Microsoft Surface team GM talked about how they has developed the Surface tablet. He told that Surface was developed inside-out which means they first designed the inner side of the Surface tablet and after that they worked with external looks of the Surface tablet. He further added that they have custom designed over 200 parts fitted in the Surface and there is no one battery inside the Surface but there are multiple batteries evenly distributed inside the surface to make it equally balanced from all the sides.
Since the hardware is from the product’s software developer, Surface is the seamless integration of both hardware and software for the first time by Microsoft, it’s the approach because of which Apple products are so famous and works perfectly. Surface RT is the first and only Windows 8 device developed by Microsoft to show the real usability of Windows 8 to its customers, though Microsoft partners have also launched their Windows 8 devices in the market but Surface is truly an innovation.
At the first touch, Surface feels so good and smooth in hands that you keeps on feeling it from each and every corner you can touch from your hands. The ClearType HD display screen with bright Windows 8 live tiles is gorgeous enough to make you touch it again and again.
Microsoft Surface RT is powered by a Quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 ARM processor chip with 2 GB of RAM. The RT version of Surface do not run x86/x64 Windows software programs and only runs Windows Store apps in it. Surface comes with Windows RT and Office Home and Student 2013 RT pre-installed in it. By default, Surface is having Windows Mail and Messaging; SkyDrive; Internet Explorer 10; Bing; Xbox Music, Video, and Games app in it. You can install thousands of apps via Windows Store available in your Surface to make it more productive, entertaining and useful.
Surface RT measures 10.81 x 6.77 x 0.37in and weighs 1.5 lbs only. The outer casing of Surface is made of VaporMg material, comes in Dark Titanium color and have physical Volume and Power buttons on it.
The best thing about Surface is its display, it features a 5-point multi-touch 10.6″ ClearType HD Display with stock resolution of 1366×768 pixels and aspect ratio of 16:9 (widescreen). The screen size actually allows you to work on multiple apps simultaneously without losing the feel of a standard PC screen workspace.
Surface features a full-sized USB 2.0 port which allows you to plug-in millions of devices in your Surface directly, bringing the seamless power to your tablet instantly. Other features include microSDXC card slot, Headset jack, HD video out port, Cover port, two microphones, Stereo speakers, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0. All these features actually makes it a full-fledge PC packed in the body of a tablet.
Surface RT comes in two memory variants – 32 GB and 64 GB, expandable up to 64 GB using MicroSD external card whereas Surface Pro will come only in 64 GB and 128 GB variants. It also features both front and rear 720p HD LifeCam cameras for Skype video calling, clicking pictures and recording videos.
Surface got some cool accessories which are uniquely designed to work with Surface only. The Touch Cover – is a thin (only 3 mm), sleek, and incredibly responsive cover which actually have a full keyboard with pressure sensing keys in it as well. It aligns perfectly with Surface and with Kickstand On, your Surface actually turns in to a laptop to work with your office presentations and documents. You can shop Surface accessories from Microsoft Store, Touch Cover costs $119.99 and available in five beautiful colors. The other cover, called Type Cover is also available – it is having physical keys on it and actually a better option for people who have lots of typing jobs on a regular basis. The Type Cover costs $129.99 and comes in Black color only.
The Surface RT is available in three SKUs: 32GB version priced at US$499, 32GB version bundled with a black Touch Cover priced at US$599, and a 64GB version bundled with a Touch Cover priced at US$699.
In short, Surface have a lot more to offer in this price than any other standard tablet available in the market right now. Apple iPad 4 with 16 GB memory is offered for $499 and offers a lot less as compared to Surface RT. Without any doubt, this is the best tablet ever launched in the market till date.
