Two days ago, Apple has released the final version of iOS 6 for general iOS powered device users. The iOS 6 comes pre-installed with iPhone 5 and iPod Touch 5th generation, for rest of the devices like iPhone 4S/4/3GS, iPad, and iPod 4th generation, you need to download and install update on your device.
You can download and install this update via iTunes or if you’re using iOS 5 – the Over-The-Air option found under Settings -> General -> Software Update on your iOS device.
According to Apple, the new iOS 6 features includes a totally new Apple-designed Maps, new Siri features, Facebook integration, Share Photo Streams, and over 200 other new features has been included in it. So, let’s discuss in details what the new 626MB iOS 6 update package includes in it.
iOS 6 Features List
Apple 3D Maps: The new Apple designed maps app in iOS 6 features turn-by-turn spoken directions, interactive 3D views, and the new Flyover feature which lets you See select major metro areas from the air with photo-realistic, interactive 3D views. The maps are highly interactive in iOS 6.
SIRI with more Support: The Siri understands more languages and works in more countries. With the all new updated Siri, you can now ask about the latest scores and stats for your favorite teams and players. Siri can show you the latest reviews and showtimes, finds best restaurants in town and make reservations. Siri can now open your apps for you without tapping. Say “Launch Flight Tracker” or “Open Angry Birds” and Siri will do that for you instantly. You can also use Siri to post Facebook updates and tweet for you.
Facebook integration: Apple iOS 6 is now integrated with the features to support Facebook at its heart. Share a photo to Facebook right from Camera or Photos. Post your location right from Maps. Brag about a high score right from Game Center. iOS 6 with Facebook just got more awesome now, just sign-in once with your Facebook account you will be ready to share your whole world with your friends.
Shared Photo Streams: With this new iOS 6 feature, you can now share the photos you want with your friends or relatives easily. Your friends using iCloud on an iOS 6 device or Mac running Mountain Lion will get the photos instantly in the photos app or iPhoto. You can even share your photo streams on Apple TV just by tapping the Share button.
Passbook: With Passbook, you can scan your iPhone or iPod touch to check in for a flight, get into a movie, and redeem a coupon. You can also see when your coupons expire, where your concert seats are, and the balance left on that all-important coffee bar card. The passbook app will alerts if you are waiting on the wrong terminal. Passbook app is my personal favorite feature of iOS 6.
FaceTime over Cellular: FaceTime now works over cellular networks as well as Wi-Fi, so you can make and receive FaceTime calls wherever you happen to be. You can even make and receive FaceTime calls on your iPad using your phone number. Isn’t it amazing?
New Phone Calling Features: iOS 6 comes with the new calling features, now you can decline an incoming call instantly by replying it with a text message or set a callback reminder.
New Mail: The new Mail app in iOS 6 is redesigned with new interface for easier reading and writing. It’s even easier to add photos and videos to email messages. And to refresh your mailboxes, all you have to do is swipe down.
Safari: The iOS 6 Safari is now optimized to provide much better web browsing experience on your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, integrated with iCloud, it keeps track of your browsing session on one device and pick-up the session on the other device. Safari now saves web pages — not just links — in your Reading List, so you can catch up on your reading even when you can’t connect to the Internet.
Accessibility: The new accessibility features in iOS 6 makes it easier for people with vision, hearing, learning, and mobility disabilities to get the most from their iOS devices. Guided Access helps students with disabilities such as autism remain on task and focused on content. It allows a parent, teacher, or administrator to limit an iOS device to one app by disabling the Home button, as well as restrict touch input on certain areas of the screen. VoiceOver, the revolutionary screen reader for blind and low-vision users, is now integrated with Maps, AssistiveTouch, and Zoom.
The new iOS 6 features will make your iOS device more useful than ever. There are more features like Camera with in-built panorama mode, newly designed App stores, Find My Phone, Find My Friend, and many more features are ready to re-energize your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
