New York – Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) has sent press invites few days ago to media organizations, inviting them to showcase the release of next generation Surface 2 tablets line-up. Microsoft is expected to release Surface 2 ( no “RT” in the name this time), Surface 2 Pro, and a bunch full of Accessories.
After having burnt its fingers, Microsoft will be launching its next iteration of Surface device, the Surface 2 on September 23rd in a special event to be held in New York. The Surface will feature hardware upgrades and so also the Windows 8.1 OS which will try to iron out the flaws in its earlier version and will also help to boost Surface sales.
Te next iteration of the Surface products will be debuting on September 23rd. The next iteration of Surface devices will be featuring new hardware, as well as the Windows 8.1 OS platform. If Microsoft plays its cards properly it can surely hit the bull’s-eye this time. Having lost the game in the first round to Apple iOS and Android devices, this time Microsoft is treading its path very carefully.
Microsoft is planning to introduce a two-level kickstand in Surface 2 and Surface 2 Pro tablets. Microsoft will also upgrade the Surface 2 Pro tablets with Intel Haswell processors and 8GB on-board RAM. The design and feel of Surface 2 tablets will remain same as of first generation Surface tablets. The introduction of Intel Haswell chips will significantly improve the battery life by 2 hours.
Microsoft is going to hold a special event in New York City on September 23rd and it has sent invites to the members of the fourth estate. However the biggest question is if Microsoft is playing a bet on a losing horse. A $900 million inventory writes off for the Surface RT, and poor sales of Surface Pro, can Microsoft pull off its biggest gamble on the next iteration of the Surface range?
Experts contend that the Surface 2 is a second generation Windows RT device. The Surface 2 will feature an upgraded Tegra 4 chip. The 10.1 inch screen will have a Full-HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Other features like the Weight, thickness and battery life will be identical to its predecessors.
If we talk about the new accessories, Microsoft will release a power-cover keyboard for Surface 2 Pro, which will come with an in-built battery in cover to increase the working hours of Surface 2 Pro tablets. Other accessories will include a new docking station, power cables, and improved Touch Cover.
The price tag of the Surface 2 will be a big issue and decide if the device will be a thumping success or a dud. With a price tag of $500, a Surface 2 will lock horns with the iPad, which has a superior selection of apps. Yes, the Surface 2 will also feature the MS Office products as well as Outlook this time but still it will be an uphill task, taking on the big Whigs of the market.
As the Apple iPad 5 and iPad Mini are coming later this year and Nokia Lumia Windows RT tablet is also on the verge of release, it is going to be a tough scene for next generation of Surface tablets to make some space in the tablet market.
