After the release of the Samsung Galaxy S4, it is now the upcoming release of the Google version of the Galaxy S4 that is creating all the buzzes. People thinking of buying the S4 are suddenly confused as to which version of the S4 will be more apt and hi-tech and which brand should they skip.
Hence, a detailed look on both the versions of the Galaxy S4 will make it easier for the buyers to differentiate the capabilities of the two Smartphone and perhaps, this can guide one as well in buying the more suitable handset.
The hardware, i.e., the internal making of the two versions is quite identical. Both the Google and Samsung version have included a 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, and that makes these identical in performance too, to some extent. When it is about the inside of the phone, the storage capacity of the handset too comes into context and the internal memories of the two phones are a bit different. They are different in the sense that the Google version has only 16GB of internal storage, and on the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has 32 and 64GB capacities as well in addition to the 16GB.
In fact, one discouraging factor about the 16GB variant of the Samsung Galaxy S4 is that out of the 16GB space, it kills 6GB already by installing a heap of software like the Android OS, TouchWiz overlay, Dual Camera, Air View, S Health, Smart Scroll and S Translator etc. for this Samsung has already been facing a lot of criticisms. But this is not an issue with the Google version where there is only a vanilla version of Android consuming very less storage.
One of the factors that highlights the most of the differences between the Google and Samsung versions of the Galaxy S4 is the software found in the two Smartphone. Although the operating system of both the handsets is the same, i.e., the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean but still there are differences as the Samsung version is heavily loaded with apps and software. However, the impressive factor about the Google Galaxy S4 is that the phone will come with an unlocked bootloader which can be customized by its users later as they wish to.
In addition to the TouchWiz interface, there will be a range of extra apps and software in the Samsung version Smartphone and those comprises of the Dual Shot, Sound & Shot, Drama Shot, Group Play, Story Album, Samsung Hub, S Translator, ChatOn, Smart Pause, Smart Scroll, Multi Window, Air View/Air Gesture, Samsung WatchOn, Samsung HomeSync, Samsung KNOX, S Health, Adapt Display, Adapt Sound and so on.
Samsung and Google, both are using the same screen size and resolution. So, the Galaxy S4 of both the brands is a 5in full-HD (1920×1080) SuperAMOLED screen. By keeping this screen resolution, both the brands are ensuring that its users can enjoy playing games and watch their favorite videos to the fullest.
As the Galaxy S4 is a successor of the Galaxy S3, it is quite obvious that there will be improvements in its performance. So, the latest handset will consume less power and this same feature will also be found in the Google Galaxy S4. What’s more, the new display of the Smartphone will also work with gloves.
As to an extent, both the versions possess almost the same hardware; the performance level of the phones too will be quite similar. When it comes to speed, the lab test of the Samsung Galaxy S4 proves that it is the fastest Smartphone ever till now. However, at this point it will also have to be admitted that the speed testing of the Google Galaxy S4 is not yet performed.
Design and look
From the look and design point of view, the Google and Samsung both versions look identical. There are indeed changes in the look of the S4 than the S3. The latest phone looks smaller than the previous one, is lighter weighing only 130g and has rounded corners. This look is kept intact for both the brands.
The colors of the Google Galaxy S4 are not yet leaked. The two shades of the Samsung S4 are ‘Black Mist’ and ‘White Frost’ and some more colors are yet to come later this year.
There is a huge 9.8Wh battery in the Samsung Galaxy S4, and the same battery is also going to be found in the Google Galaxy S4 offering similar battery performance. So, as the Samsung phone lasts for one day after a heavy use and two days on light usage, the same performance can be expected from the Google version as well.
Galaxy S4 Price and availability
The price for the Samsung Galaxy S4 in the UK is £539 on Amazon. However, the SIM-free price of the handset in the US is $649 with 16GB storage.
The Google Galaxy S4 is charging $649 SIM-free in the US. The UK pricing of the Google S4 is expected to be £510 basing on a survey of the market, though it is not announced yet.
So, that is just a little glimpse of a comparative study of the Samsung and Google Galaxy S4 phones which is sure to guide the buyers to some extent.
