Apple products have always been famous for their display and graphics quality, speed and excellent gadget performance. With the coming of iMac 21” though, another aspect has been introduced as a bonus aspect- thinness.
iMac has an Ivy Bridge i5 2.9 GHz Quad Core with a choice on the internal memory of 8GB or 16GB. It uses NVIDIA chip for better graphical performance and Fusion Drive of 1TB storage. It reduces glare by 75% through its improved 21-inch 1080p display. But that is not the most noticeable innovation that iMac proposes.
iMac’s physicality catches the eye of anyone who can laid his eyes on it. This is what everyone would notice with the Apple’s new gadget. With an eye-catching sleekness, despite its standard Apple look which means aluminum build with a slice of metal on its chin and Apple’s black logo at the back, iMac’s width is a product of an aviation wielding strategy known as friction-stir. This strategy is also the reason why its volume decreased in 40% and became much lighter only weighing 12.5 pounds.
The thing about its width though is that it doesn’t have any significance when it comes to its performance. On the contrary, its slim design makes it almost impossible for the RAM to be upgraded. The ports (four USB 3.0 sockets, two Thunderbolt connectors, SDXC reader and Ethernet jack) are hard to access, and its SD card slot is inconvenient to use. Its back part bulges at the center part where the other hardware are inputted. This is the part where the GPU, RAM and processor are located.
But despite these problems caused by iMac’s thinness, its performance is without a doubt still above average. Its operating systems runs like a single click snapping here and there with every task set for it. One good proof of this is how fast Photoshop and Premiere Pro operate in the gadget. With the computing prowess of 43 seconds which is way faster than the 54-second computing ability of the Retina MacBook Pro, no one can say that Apple is losing its touch with the iMac. The graphics are better and stronger in details considering its rich colors and high level elements. What’s omitted though is the usual optical drive built in the gadget which contributes to its slimness.
