A number of premium smartphones which was launched in 2011 and 2012 had started off with the Gingerbread Android 2.3 and later updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. All these devices are getting their Jelly Bean update in May.
Prominent devices include Sony Xperia S and the Samsung Galaxy Note which will be getting their Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates. Sony Xperia S was Sony’s Flagship device was launched on the Android Gingerbread OS and is currently running on ICS. Galaxy Note was the first true phablet which was launched on the Android Gingerbread OS and is at present is running on 4.0 ICS.
The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates will start rolling for the Xperia S in May. This information has been sourced to a road map of the French carrier SFR which has confirmed that the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates will start rolling from May 2013.
Sony had earlier promised to begin the updates in March which did not happen. The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates will bring along with it a number of features like the Project Butter enhancements. The users will be having the Multi Window experience for the first time and so also better keyboard, choice of two home screen modes, and a customized notification panel. Other features include Google Now, Page Buddy , Nature UX interface, Direct Call , Smart Rotation, Samsung’s own Cloud services, Smart Stay and Pop-up Play.
Earlier Samsung had rolled out the Jelly Bean update for its devices in Taiwan and Hong Kong in February. The Xperia S was launched in February 2012 and it was said that the device will not receive the Jelly Bean updates. However, later it was upgraded to ICS and now it will receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates.
The Galaxy Note phablet will be receiving its Jelly Bean Update around the same time as the Xperia S which is May. This will be sadly the last Android update for the Galaxy Note and you will not be able to update to any other Android Mobile OS.
According to the SFR’s update list, the 1st Galaxy Note phablet will also be getting the Jelly Bean update at around the same time as the Sony Xperia S. Most of the people know that their devices will get Android 4.2 instead of 4.1 and it’s a good achievement.
