Retailers have indicated that there is a strong interest for the next Gaming Console from Sony, The PlayStation 4. GameStop has reported a spurt in earnings but what is more important is the demand for the Sony PlayStation 4.
If Tony Bartel, GameStop President is to be believed, more than nine million members have already signed up for PlayStation 4 First to Know List. It is a clear indicator that users are going to pre- order the gaming console when it goes for sale in the fourth quarter.
Bartel further added that he expects a huge surge in demand and it will outpace the supply of the gaming console. Sony unveiled everything about the PlayStation 4 except the actual hardware specifications. GameStop feels that the PlayStation 4 will be launched for sale in the fourth quarter.
GameStop also confirmed that the sales of Nintendo Wii U after a fabulous launch have steadily declined over the past few months since launch. According to NPD research firm the sales of Wii U touched 57,000 in January and 64,000 units in February.
One of the biggest reasons for the lack of consumer interest in the Wii U is because Nintendo launched the Gaming Console without a strong first-party title. However when there is a strong first party title one can expect the sales of the Wii U to grow.
Sony in all probability will introduce the PlayStation 4 globally in 2013. GameStop feels that even if only one Gaming Console, the PS4 is released it will be beneficial for the Gaming Industry and will bring out the segment out of the red.
Chief financial officer of GameStop, Robert Loyd, added “With Grand Theft Auto V and Battlefield 4 releasing in the third quarter, and the PS4 launching in the fourth quarter, we expect a return to growth for the back half of the year.”
It is difficult to imagine that Sony will be releasing the PlayStation 4 simultaneously all over the globe. However it is also possible that the biggest retailer may be witness to some secrets which has not reached the domain of public knowledge.
