New Features in android 4.4 Kitkat:

Lock Screen

There are not many changes in lock screen, obviously you get an unlock button but at the bottom there Is an arrow pointed upward which swipe up to gets you Google now. There is a small camera icon at the right bottom side, swiping left on it will get you into the camera. Lock screen widgets are still there which have to be enabled. When you are listening music and you lock the screen, when you press the lock button you get a full screen album art which is kind of cool. You can now long press on the pause play button then you can actually jump ahead or back on track which is better than past. This adds more power to the lock screen.

Launcher

The new launcher got new features in it. The first thing you notice is, if you go to the app drawer there are just apps now there is no long longer app/widget drawer it’s just apps now . If you want to access widgets now it’s back to the home screen. Long press on the home screen you will get a widget option. On the home screen if swipe to right you will go into the Google now. You can also do the home screen swipe up to get Google now. The cool feature of Kitkat is when you are on the home screen and if you say “OK GOOGLE” it will pop up and let you do the voice search. There is a Home option in the settings. If you have more than one launcher installed, this setting will list all the third party launcher installed in device and you can easily switch to any launcher you want to use

Location

In the new location feature, you don’t have to worry about disabling your internet connection or GPS to save your battery. There are three options High accuracy, Battery saving and Device only which helps you to save your device battery. You can also tell certain apps how much battery you want them to use. So Google is saying that the battery drains a lot because of GPS and location setting so they given you these options rather than just worrying about turning off the GPS, so it’s kind of useful thing which you can access quickly in your quick toggle.

Printing

There is printing option added in the settings which allows you to connect your device to cloud HP printer.

Dialer

The dialer now is completely redone; when you open it will show you your most recent calls and favorites. When you receive an unknown call Google actually try to search who that person is like a caller ID which is really cool.

Messaging

Hangouts application is now the default messaging app in Kitkat which you like or may not like . You can download the other third party messaging apps and use them as default. The new emoji are inbuilt with the keyboard.

There are still some bugs there in this version. I am sure that Google will fix it in their next stability update.
