All these tit bits must be taken with a pinch of salt since these rumors cannot be independently verified. However there is no smoke without fire and there are talks that some documents with the details of the specs have been leaked during the CES 2013 event. It is believed that the official announcement of the two devices will be made in March and the consoles will hit the retail outlets for sale sometime in November.

These are the same rumors that were out last time with xbox 360 and PS3 and xbox and PS2 etc.. etc.. been around the block for a long time. Before that is was the original Sony PS against Sega and Sega won that battle until they got sick of making consoles. While hardware plays a major role in gaming success, consoles are only as good as the developers ability to write programs that can make the most use out of the product. Sony has always tried to one up competitors with impressive hardware. Each in succession ended with Microsoft/Sega Developers more capable of making use of their console to create better games. Many games availible on both systems looked better on Sony but Sony has always been plagued with poor/no support. I think Sony will always play second in the gaming world in competition with Nintendo for the second spot. I see Microsoft has been very organized with XBOX and has been planning a unified system which is comming about with Connect, XBOX360 and soon 720, and the new Windows 8 Surface and Windows 8 phones which will all be able to work seemlessly together in a bid to become the standard home entertainment/infotainment platform.
Other companies are not attempting this. Apple is trying with Apple TV but Apple has no in house gaming platform outside of its basic ipad apps. and Apple TV takes forever to download the content before it can play it (Doesnt stream). Sony has the gaming platform potential but no in house OS for its devices which it sells with OEM Microsoft or Google based Operating systems. The only competitor in the game with the full spectrum of products is now Microsoft and eventually the world will catch on that they are playing to win and serious about thier future. People will buy into that with confidence based on XBOX success and Windows success. Detractors complain about Zune and Windows CE failures but Microsoft knew when to cut out and go a different direction in the fight for supremacy in this market and they have played a great game that has led up to this. The products you see comming from Microsoft now are solid and refined to build this new unfied structure and they will not abandon it.

More power isn’t always better if it comes at a higher price for consumers. Didn’t Sony learn from the PS3 debacle?
