After the launch of latest Kindle Fire HD tablets few months ago, it is being rumored that Amazon is working on its own smartphone with custom Android based Kindle OS in it.
Few websites are claiming that Amazon Kindle Smartphone is currently in testing and will be shown to world soon, most likely to be at MWC 2013 in February next year.
If we follow the Amazon’s strategy of making and selling Kindle Fire tablets, it looks like that the new Kindle phone will be aggressively priced to override the highly competitive smartphone market. Even Google has done the same with Nexus 4 by launching it just for $300, and that too unlocked.
It is expected that the Kindle phone will come with latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean customized by Amazon, a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, 8 and 16 GB memory variants, Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, 5 megapixel HD camera and 720p front-facing camera, 4.3-inch HD IPS LCD display with 1024-by-768 screen resolution, Bluetooth 4.0, and all Amazon’s Prime service subscriptions.
Rumors regarding the design of phone are saying that it is going to be no button phone like the Kindle tablets and the form factor will give resemblance to Kindle Fire 7-inch tablet model.
The phone may be priced in between $99-$149 with subscription to Amazon Prime services and a service contract from carrier. Amazon is not going to sell unlocked Kindle phones, according to the rumors till now.
It will be interesting to see the launch of smartphone by Amazon. The phone will go in direct competition with Samsung’s Galaxy S3, Google Nexus 4, and Apple iPhone 5. Let’s see how good it will go to attract the consumers. The aggressive pricing strategy may lead Amazon to capture a decent share in smartphone market.
