Microsoft Surface Tablet has impressed Oprah Winfrey, the undisputed Queen of Gab, and she has included it in her favorite list of things in 2012. Oprah was impressed by its cool features and has compared it to holding a Mercedes Benz in your hand.
The thumbs up from Oprah could not have come at a better time since Microsoft is entering the hardware segment for the first time and has earned the wrath of a lot of manufacturers. Worse, a recent survey by Associated Press found that 69 percent of the consumers showed little or no interest in the Microsoft Surface Tablet.
Oprah wrote on her website, “The full-size keyboard built right into the cover makes work easy, the very smart kickstand makes watching a movie or Skyping a friend a delight, the less than a pound-and-a-half weight makes a great alternative to a laptop, and the many other features make it fun for work and play. Now, that’s a wowser!”
The news comes as a welcome relief for Microsoft because Oprah has created an invincible image of incorruptibility and whatever she recommends is gobbled up by her fans which are substantial.
It is a surprise that the Microsoft Surface Tablet has made up into Ms Winfrey’s list since most of the other 49 items are mostly toiletries, food and other similar wares. The other Tech articles which Oprah had endorsed were Bose VideoWave II, a 46-inch high- definition television, home theater, and music system; a Jetson electric bike; a Dyson pedestal fan; and a Q37ci Elliptical Trainer, which consumers can get for $2,789 along with a coupon from the past talk show host.
The Surface RT tablet went on sale from October 26th. The Windows RT runs on the ARM processors. ARM processors are usually found on mobiles while most desktops and laptops feature x86 processor. One downside of the Surface tablet is that it will not run any old software and all the applications will have to be downloaded from the Windows Store. The Surface has a 10.6-inch display and weighs 1.5 pounds (680 grams). It starts at $499 with 32GB of storage.
